Unexpected Team Members

Beyond the Boundaries
ACTS 10:9-16 NIV
"About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat.""Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven."

Unexpected Team Members

Didn't we, at one time,  tried to keep something worth sharing within only our immediate circle of trust? Have we ever tried, at one time, refuse to share something good outside our boundaries?

Most of the times, we would want our team members to be within our immediate circle of friends, or those who would readily trust us. We would rather not grow and reach our potential as a team than to reach out to those, who we may not personally know, but who will really help us come closer in reaching our goals.

God had illustrated in the text above that in order for His word to spread beyond the boundaries of His chosen people, Israel, He will be needing people to reach out those outside the immediate circle of trust, and fulfill His purpose.

In order for us to reach out those outside of our boundaries to be our unexpected team members, we can carefully consider the following:

Be open to God's leading
"Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat" (Acts 10:13 NIV)

Be slow to reject ideas
"'Surely not, Lord!' Peter replied. 'I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.'" (Acts 10:14 NIV)

Be quick to consider God's direction
"The voice spoke to him the second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean'" Acts 10:15

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Building a team within our immediate circle of trust is simple and easy. But for us to really develop our maximum potential and achieve our goals, we can consider the following to build our organization from unexpected team members.

  1. Pray and seek out God's leading - it is important to seek out God's leading in our desire to build the right team and be sensitive about it. Sometimes, we seek out complicated means in developing our team but refuse to realize that God had a simple but better ways of doing it.

  1. Remove reactionary pride - sometimes, God leads us to people we would rather not work with and be judgmental about them, rather than simply accepting the truth even if it means setting aside your pride.

  1. Rightfully follow God. - action, quite often than not, is better, rather than be paralyzed by thinking and analyzing it too much.
